Central Avenue Project
Central Avenue Revitalization Project
Status: Open for bids by end of February, 2010
Funded in part through Katrina CDBG Community Revitalization Program
- Widening of Central Avenue from the Town Clock, south to Racetrack Road.
- Addition of a center turning lane, making Central Avenue a 3-lane road with a curb and gutter.
- Addition of sidewalks on the East and West side of Central Avenue.
- Improved water and sewer infrastructure
- Relocation of electrical, cable and telephone wiring underground
- Addition of landscaped green spaces.
- Addition of new, decorative street lights
Goals:
- To improve overall aesthetics of the old town-small business section of D’Iberville.
- To create a look and atmosphere that supports the French Market concept that is part of the City’s Master Plan.
Downtown Facade Grant Program
- Provides grant funds to business owners in targeted old town area, allowing them to improve the design and appearance of their store-front façades.
