City Adopts Drainage Litter Ordinance
At the January 19, 2010 meeting the City Council passed an ordinance that prohibits littering in the city’s drainage.
The ordinance states:
WHEREAS, No person, firm, corporation, or other legal entity shall place or cause to be placed in any public subsurface drain, swale drainage ditch, or other drainage way, any grass clippings, brush, fill, trash, debris, obstructions or unwanted materials, the placement of which would alter, impede, block or otherwise detrimentally affect the rate of flow of water through said drainage way; and…
WHEREAS, Employees of the City of D’Iberville shall be permitted to enter upon all properties for the purpose of inspection, observation, and measurement, in accordance with the furtherance of the requirements of this ordinance.
BE IT ORDAINED AS FOLLOWS: Effectively immediately, any person, firm or corporation violating any of the provisions of this ordinance shall be guilty of a misdemeanor, and upon conviction thereof shall be fined in an amount of $1,000 and/or 6 months of jail time plus all costs incurred for the removal of any obstructions.
