Crime Report: 6-15-2009: Sexual Assault

PRESS RELEASE

Chief of Police Wayne Payne released information on an attempted sexual assault incident that occurred at the north end of Riverside Drive, commonly known as “The Cliff” in D’Iberville, MS.

Chief  Payne said the victim was leaving after a day of sunning at the river when a white male, wearing no clothes, attacked her. The victim said she was walking to her vehicle and noticed the white male “hiding behind a tree”. As she walked passed, he jumped out and she noticed he was nude, only wearing a camouflage mask covering his face and armed with a shotgun or riffle. The suspect instructed the victim to “stop”. At that point, the victim fled on foot. The suspect chased the victim and eventually knocked her to the ground. The victim managed to fight off the attack and escape. The suspect was last seen running through the woods.

Chief Payne said his officers and investigators are following up leads and have interviewed one person of interest in the case. However, the case is still under investigation. “This is a very dangerous person”…said Chief Payne. We want him off the streets as soon as possible. We are asking anyone with information about this incident or any similar to please contact the D’Iberville Police Department Criminal Investigation Division at 228-396-4252.

The victim and witnesses described the nude white male as: approximately 6-00 tall, 250 pounds, with a “pot belly”.
