Promenade Shopping Center
The Promenade Shopping Center, a 700,000 square-foot premium retail development is coming to D’Iberville. The developers are CBL and Forum Development Group, with CBL as the majority partner responsible for development, leasing and management. The group announced their acquisition of about 72 acres, just west and north of the Sangani Boulevard retail center, clearing the way for groundbreaking which is expected to take place this summer.
The Promenade will have 11 major anchor stores, with 80,000 square-feet of specialty shops and restaurants. The project is expected to create 1,000 new jobs and generate more than $185 million in annual retail sales.
“This demonstrates again why D’Iberville will be the Coast’s retail shopping destination of the future,” said City Manager, Richard Rose.
“The Promenade will not only bring a high-quality shopping center to the market, but will create a new and much needed employment source as well as expanding the city’s tax revenue base,” said Bill Brown, co-founder and managing member of Forum. “The Promenade will enhance the quality of life in the community for all,” he added.
“Following the destruction and setback that the Mississippi Gulf Coast suffered from Hurricane Katina in 2005, we believe the Promenade will serve to revitalize the area and create a much needed retail hub and service district for the D’Iberville community,” said Stephen Lebovitz, president of CBL & Associates Properties. “In large part due to the support of the city’s outstanding leadership, including Mayor Rusty Quave. The Promenade development will make a truly positive impact on the D’Iberville community as it moves forward with rebuilding the city,” Lebovitz added.
Major changes are planned for the area in anticipation of the large development. The city has met with MDOT to plan changes and improvements to roadways around the new development. The motel just on the north west corner of the I-110 interchange will be torn down to make way for the extension of Sangani Boulevard, which will be widened to five lanes. Some changes will also be necessary for the I-110/I-10 interchange, making easier and safer to exit the interchange.
